/sôrs/ ◦These tables were built using the old growth fir from the framing and renovation of the building they were put back into. A large part of the inspiration to take on this project was the building itself. A sort of physical sacrifice in its own renewal to provide the very surfaces that nourishment is to be served. The building began to take on a life of its own as an organ donor - to itself.
/SHāp/ ◦The process began with material selection and pairing with regards to grain orientation. The natural deformation the boards acquired over the many years in their previous life was telling in which way they wanted to be rejoined.
/ˌenjəˈnir/ ◦The patio tables were designed as a single unit with benches connected. The steel selection and fabrication was to fulfill an engineered feature which utilized the load applied (once a person sits) to flex and contour to the ground eliminating the common teetering of a table. If not obvious; the wooden members are adjoining the steel members providing a certain flexure between them that also lends itself to this ground interface. Now we have, what I would consider in my limited experience: a potentially new physical observation. The diners presents being necessary to the function of this less static furnishing, the bending could be contributory.
