Inspired by the work of Mark West and the history of fabric formed concrete, this project is an investigation of self interest to be further worked and explored.
/fôrm/ ◦ Geotextile formed concrete interests me for many reasons. One of which is the balance between workmanship of risk and certainty. Where the built world is concerned there will always be aspects within our control and parts that shouldn’t be. It is these parts that uniquely become an outcome of our authorship. However, it is not us who is responsible. It forms itself yet is effortless and far more complex. By allowing nature to play a dominant role in the process, we exploit the genetic makeup of our architecture rather than be held hostage by it.
The ‘pillow’ itself is representative of a cell that is made-up of the results of controlled constants and unknown variables. As with every condition we fabricate a demand, only a small percentage of the outcome requires specificity.
