Custom Handrails and Stairs in Phoenix

Shape designs, fabricates and installs custom handrails, stair railings and stairs in Phoenix. We’re a two-person shop run by Kyle and Mike. We handle design, engineering, shop drawings, fabrication and installation in-house, and Kyle builds the work himself.

A handrail is the part of a building people touch every day, so we treat it like furniture. On our 50th Street stair project, the handrail is American ash from the Pacific Northwest, milled by Kyle and shaped by hand to fit the steel below it. Because we mill our own lumber, we can choose the stock, match grain along long runs, and make sure the wood is right before it goes on a rail.

On the metal side we build stringers, balusters, posts and brackets in steel, stainless and brass. We also make our own corten-style weathering steel finish in the shop for exterior rails and stairs. We detail connections to suit the architecture, whether that means hidden fasteners, exposed welds or machined fittings.

What we build:

  • Interior and exterior handrails

  • Stair railings and guardrails

  • Steel and steel-and-wood stairs

  • Wood rail caps and grab rails milled in-house

  • Custom brackets and fittings

We work best when we’re brought in early, before the stair is framed, so structure, attachment and finish are worked out on paper first. We work with architects, builders and homeowners.
