3/1/22:

What could a ShapeHouse be? A single unit or maybe a set of units. A volume of space (or spaces) that could be a self contained happy little unit that could fulfill the basic need of shelter. Housing, office, storage etc. Early ideas of this space encouraged thoughts of dimensions - how can they accommodate or adhere to existing standards to be buildable and/or compliant with codes and regulation. This then evolved from an intrinsic logically dimensioned space into an extrinsic dimensioned volume with regard to interfacing of another. Thus capability to multiply. How can a single unit multiple? What is the interface? What conditions could this create? ….

3/3/22:

Aside from these few sketches, conversations are had and many ideas are thought. Regardless however, it would seem that this module is “underdeveloped” or as some might say in the business world, “not-yet a minimum viable product” But with enthusiasm and entrepreneurial pursuit (paired with the state to which this module has reached theoretically and in numerous possibilities) I weave this idea into conversations in the real world and perhaps by natural economic happenstance a neighbor expresses a desire. They want a backyard studio of sorts. Multi-use with utilities etc…. So I continue the conversation. And I sketch this (below) and overlay it on an image of the neighbors backyard in the proposed location. I also throw out a few different ideas and shared Mies’ Farnsworth house, cause it could be adapted to fit or adhere to the pre-exsiting formula.

3/9/22:

Almost the antithesis of theoretical development in the creative sense (where we can both alter the substance and alter the framework and let these two inform one another) it was this moment when a budget was introduced to determine a cost structure for different variations of these units with the desired output to be a cost/sqft understanding.

4/1/2022:

As the idea of these units working both independently and together grows with no real world checks and balances we are also communicating our idea to the market. We must be considerate of the demand needs. And naturally the design begins crystalize in one form for this particular opportunity. Below is the current stage of design for a small inhabitable structure we’ve been contracted to build.
